According to Simon Broad, COO of ARRI CSC, “The ARRI Group has taken time in producing the D-20, waiting for digital technology to develop to the point it could be integrated with the user-friendly design aspects of a 35mm camera. It is designed with modular features that can be enhanced as technology evolves.” The D-20 is compatible with all 35mm style lenses (including specialty lenses) and ARRI accessories, which make it perfect for commercial production.
“We couldn't be more excited,” says Tom Fletcher, VP of Fletcher Chicago. “We always have our eye out for the next professional digital camera and feel that the D-20 meets our highest expectations on a number of technological aspects. ARRI has been a longtime respected name in motion picture capture and this is the high-end camera and image quality that the industry has been asking for.”
Craig Leffel, Senior Colorist and Partner of Optimus, who color corrected Fletcher's camera test adds, "I’m impressed with the D-20 because the 4:4:4 image capture and inherent resolution allow me the flexibility to move the image around more like a film curve rather than that of videotape. There is a tremendous range in the blacks and whites giving the image a real photographic feel. I can stretch and bend the images at will. It responds very much like 35mm motion picture film, without the hard clipping or shortened grey scale you would associate with tape-based work. I'm excited to experiment with the Log capture aspects of the D-20 and working alternately in a file-based environment as well. By providing Linear or Log capture options,” he adds, “this camera is incredibly flexible.”
As a pioneer in the advancement and promotion of HD camera technology, Fletcher is known for their equipment expertise and their sponsorship of the production community throughout the Midwest. Their dedication is evidenced by Fletcher's involvement with Varicamps and Santa Fe HD Workshops, industry seminars, regional training sessions and special screenings. In business for 20 years, they have amassed the largest inventory of digital and film equipment in the Midwest. Fletcher's expanded 30,000 sq. ft. facility now incorporates 3 discreet prep, the best equipped optical facility in the Chicago, indoor loading docks and private production office rentals. “Over the years Fletcher has proved to be a major player in the industry with a great reputation and a solid background in digital image capture,” says Broad. “We choose partners that we know can support and promote our products correctly. Our longstanding relationship and their expertise dovetail perfectly for the training and introduction of the D-20, particularly in the commercial production industry.”
