What is Lens Data System (LDS)?
Lens Data System (LDS) provides various time and money saving features by displaying lens & camera related information on Lens Data-Displays or the video assist.
The advantages of the LDS are as follows:
-- Depth of Field is graphically displayed which make setting up table top shots faster plus allows the assistant to quickly judge whether the object is still within the depth of field.
-- Lens Data Display for Focus Pullers (LDD_FP) can be mounted on matte-boxes so that the Assistant can work more efficient because the LDD-FP is in his field of vision.
-- Any ramp involving the iris requires no more complex setup anymore because the camera knows the iris setting automatically.
-- When the camera is in a remote situation (Crane, Steadicam, Shotmaker, Helicopter?) the Assistant get precise and reliable information about lens & camera status without use of cumbersome whitness cameras. This can be done wired or wireless with the WMU-3.
-- DP, Director and Script appreciate having the lens information on Video Assist, witch also acts as an accurate log on video tape.
-- By providing an interface for external distance measuring devices (currently the Cine Tape Measure) special features like focus tracking are possible.
-- Since the LDD shows a numeric value for any position on the lens ring, Assistants can work faster without using messy tape on the lenses.
-- In Summary the LDS reduces the Assistants work load and makes working with cameras and lenses more efficient. The advantages of the LDS where first introduced with the ARRICAM System and then expanded to the 435 Advanced. The System will be further expanded to function on any camera with any lens.
There are three basic configurations:
1. The LDS Classic System: This configuration with the ARRICAM, LD Display and LDS Lenses provides the most advantages. The lens will be detected instantly, no motors are needed, the Lens Data is provided even if you use only classic Follow Focus Equipment.
2. The Lens Data Mount, for LDS-Use without LDS Lenses: This adapter contains a data carrier that provides lens information for the camera. The data will be transferred to the camera and the lenses are controlled via motors.
3. The Lens Data Archive, for LDS-use on ANY camera with ANY lens: The Lens Data Archive gives you the opportunity to use many advantages of the LDS System On any Camera / Lens configuration.
